YRC Worldwide said Friday its second-quarter loss narrowed and the company reported positive operating income for the period.
The less-than-truckload carrier lost $22.1 million, compared with a $41.3 million loss a year ago. Revenue fell slightly to $1.25 billion.
Operating income was $15.5 million, marking the first time since the third quarter of 2008 it reported income from operations, excluding the 2010 second quarter, which had included an $83 million reduction in compensation expense.
Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization rose to $70.1 million, from $64.5 million a year earlier, the carrier said.
YRC Regional Transportation’s operating revenues rose 7% to $429.8 million, with tons per day up 4.4%.
YRC Freight’s operating revenue slipped 0.7% to $821.1 million, with tons per day down 3.3%.
YRC Worldwide is ranked No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
