On January 2, 2009, shortly before 8:00 a.m., thousands of shoes mysteriously appeared on a Miami highway. Who spilled the shoes? Nobody knows. But they disrupted traffic on the Palmetto Expressway for hours.
We’ve just heard of a website that displays incidents of freight spilled from tractor-trailers onto highways. We all know it happens, but the sheer variety of products that are suddenly and inconveniently bared to the public is still surprising.
Go to www.truckspills.com and you’ll see all sorts of cargo, from alligators to a Zamboni machine and a bunch of stuff in between: honey bees, cash, flour, livestock, animal parts, milk, new cars, peanuts, road deicer, and even a rig that ran away after being righted following a tipover.
