Schneider National Buying 2,500 OnGuard Collision Safety Systems

Meritor Wabco announced that Schneider National will buy more than 2,500 OnGuard Collision Safety Systems for all of its Class 8 commercial vehicles.

OnGuard is an “always-on” collision mitigation system that provides vehicles with an active braking system even if cruise control is engaged.

The system features a forward-looking radar sensor that monitors the distance, speed and deceleration of a vehicle ahead. If necessary, it alerts the driver to take appropriate action on the in-cab display.

If the driver doesn’t immediately decelerate in response to a potentially serious situation, the OnGuard system automatically de-throttles the engine, which provides up to a 50% full-service brake application to help the driver avoid a collision or reduce its severity.
