Sunday kicked off National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, which runs through Saturday and celebrates America’s truck drivers.
“Each year, America’s professional truck drivers deliver the nation’s most essential goods — food, fuel, medicine, clothing and dozens of other products, said American Trucking Associations President Bill Graves.
“To get the job done, these skilled professionals logged nearly 400 billion total miles in 2011, handling nearly 70% of the nation’s freight, he said in a statement.
“Professional truck drivers are more essential to the national economy than ever before, and they’re delivering their loads safely and professionally, and there’s no better time to celebrate their efforts than during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Graves said.
Components maker Meritor Inc. said Monday that its employees will personally thank the drivers delivering raw materials to its plants at each of its U.S. manufacturing sites this week, and the drivers who transport the finished goods to customers.
