A three-judge panel of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia on Dec. 6 agreed to hear oral arguments in a pair of federal lawsuits challenging the U.S.-Mexico cross border pilot trucking program.
The two lawsuits filed last year, one by the Independent Owner Operator Drivers Association and the other by the Teamsters union, allege that the program allowing Mexican carriers into the U.S. does not comply with U.S. federal safety laws and regulations.
So far, the program has not met expectations, with only seven Mexican-domiciled carriers being granted operating authority to participate in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s program.
